Seminars

15 November 1998
A ‘Seminar on Behaviour Management’ by Ms Denise Keller, a behaviour consultant /specialist from America was organized at Crowne Plaza Riverside Hotel.

14 April 2001
Ms Tracy Teo, a specialist on autism and Manager of Early Intervention Programme at the Centre for Disablility Research and Development, Edith Cowan University conducted an educational talk on “Children with Autism and their Abilities based on Research” at the Sarawak General Hospital Conference Room. The talk aimed to create public awareness on autism for members of the public and parents/caregivers of autistic children.


13 July 2001

Ms Tracy Teo also conducted a seminar on “Understanding and Disciplining Children” at INTI College, Kuching. The workshop covered parenting approach and principles as well as the understanding of children within the context of society’s changing attitudes. A total of 115 participants from various organizations attended the seminar.

 

26 October 2002
A seminar on “Managing Communication and Behaviour for Children with Special Needs” was presented by Patricia Smith at the Conference Room of the Sarawak General Hospital. Medical staff, parents and public attended the seminar

Workshops

1 August 1999
A workshop on ‘Behaviour Management’ by Ms Denies Keller, a behaviour consultant / specialist from America was conducted at Crowne Plaza Riverside Hotel Kuching.

10 October 1999
A workshop on ‘Language Stimulation’ by speech therapist Ms Melissa Ann Peter from “The Speech Station” in Kuala Lumpur was held at Holiday Inn Kuching.

 

7 - 11 May 2001
A one-week training by Mr. Luke Smith from Edith Cowan University was held for teachers at SAA Resource and Educational Centre


14 July 2001

A one-day workshop on “Working Effectively with Children with Special Needs” was conducted by Ms Tracy Teo at the Penview Hotel, Kuching. The workshop covered the development growth and learning disabilities of children at different stages. 67 participants from the Medical Department, other autistic associations, kindergartens and welfare bodies attended.

8 October 2002
A workshop on PECS (Pictures Exchanged Communication System) was conducted by Patricia Smith, a Speech and Language Therapist from UK for parents of children with special needs. (Patricia Smith gave a 6-week training to teachers at SAA Resource and Training Centre from 10 September to 25 October 2002)

 

2 - 4 December 2002
A 3-day “Planning Teaching Programme” course was conducted by Miss Yiu Sii Mink of Westwood Montessori for SAA teachers and parents at the SAA centre.

Fund Raising Projects

16 March 2002
SAA 1st Food Fair was held at the Civic Centre grounds to raise funds for the operational cost and building fund of SAA. The Food Fair was officially launched by YB Dr. Tiki Lafe, Deputy Minister of National Unity and Community Development. More than 60 organizations took part. A mini exhibition booth was set up to provide information on autism and activities of the SAA Resource and Educational Centre to the public.

 

 
30 March – 15 April
‘All In The Family’ Art Exhibition was held at Hilton Hotel by YDH Dato’ Hj Mohd Yusoff, Commissioner Of Police, Sarawak and his family. The objective of the exhibition was to raise funds for SAA.

Trip

1 – 3 June, 2002
An outbound trip for parents and children of SAA Resource and Educational Centre headed by Mdm Liew Shit Mui was made to Camp Permai, Santubong.
