Curriculum for the SAA Resource and Educational Centre

  1. Brain Gym- a coordinated set of integrative movements that enhance learning for everyone, particularly the learning disabled.
  2. Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA)/ Discrete Training (DTT) - a behaviour modification method that breaks down a skill into smaller parts and teaches one part, or sub-skill, at a time. It involves one-to-one teaching. Has been proven to be effective in teaching a vast range of skills for those with disabilities, particularly autism.
  3. Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication handicapped Children (TEACCH) – an approach that focuses on the development of a programme around an autistic person’s skills, interests and needs. The priorities in this approach are:
    - developing appropriate structures,
    - promoting independent work skills,
    - emphasizing strengths and interests and
    - fostering communication, social and leisure activities
  4. Academic Activities: Group A (Elementary) and Group B (Intermediate)
  5. Self-help skills
  6. Group activities- Social Skill Interaction
  7. Art and craft
  8. Circle time (Music Circle)
  9. Outside activities, i.e. physical education, nature walk, water play, play activities
