SAA Milestones

1998
18 January
Inaugural meeting initiated by Charles and Roselind Siaw at their residence at No. 26, Lorong 4, Lian Kwong Garden, Off Jalan Sungai Maong Tengah, Kuching.

6 May
SAA registered as a non-profit charitable organization

5 September
SAA committee paid a courtesy call to Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Dr. George Chan Hong Nam at Wisma Bapa Malaysia to seek assistance from the government.

23 September
A launching grant was received from the Kementerian Pembangunan Sosial Negeri Sarawak.

1999
1 February
Opening of the SAA Resource and Educational Centre at No.9, Lorong 5, Jalan Durian Burung 93350 Kuching. Starting with an initial class of three students and one teacher, the centre later expanded to four teachers and ten students at the end of the year.

2001
2 March – SAA became an affiliated member of the Social Welfare Council of Sarawak

2002
4 February
Launching ceremony of sale of tickets for SAA Food Fair by the Minister of Social Development and Urbanisation YB Dato’ Seri Dr. James Masing.

16 March
1st food fair held at civic centre. More than 60 organisations took part and it was officially launched by YB Dr. Tiki Lafe, Deputy Minister of National Unity and Community Development.
A mini exhibition was held to provide information on autism and activities of the SAA Resource and Educational Centre.

30 March – 15 April
‘All In The Family' Art exhibition held at Hilton Hotel by YDH Dato’ Hj. Mohd. Yusuff, Commissioner of Police, Sarawak and his family to raise fund for SAA. The exhibition was officially launched on 30th March by Chief Minister of Sarawak YAB Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud during which YAB Penin Sri promised to grant a piece of state land to SAA

27 July
SAA Resource and Educational Centre moved to the rented premises at Lot 6883, Lorong 2/5, Taman Hui Sing

19 December
SAA Resource and Educational Centre moved to its present premise at Banglo ‘Lada’, Jalan Bampfylde.

2003
27 February
SAA received an official acceptance from YABhg Datuk Amar Puan Sri Dr Hajjah Laila Taib, DA to be the Patron.

27 March
SAA committee paid a courtesy call to the Patron YABhg Datuk Amar Puan Sri Dr Hajjah Laila Taib, DA to thank YABhg Datuk Amar and to invite YABhg Datuk Amar to launch the newsletter and the website.
30 September
Launching of newsletter and website by the Patron, YABhg Datuk Amar Puan Sri Dr Hajjah Laila Taib, DA at Riverside Crowne Plaza, Kuching.
